Horsetail contains large amounts of silica and thus helps facilitate the use of calcium in the body, helping with flexibility and mobility and aiding in circulation. It also helps in the healing of broken bones and strengthens fingernails. It is useful in eye, ear, nose, throat and glandular disorders and is beneficial as a wash for swelling eyelids. Though its historic use has been for diabetes, it is an effective diuretic and shrinks inflamed mucosal tissue, particularly the prostate.
